Surprise, Surprise, Obama Wants More Censorship Online

No matter how long they are out of office, former Presidents are often finding ways to get back in the headlines. Sometimes it’s their opinions on the leadership of the country, other times it comes from their kids making the news, and other times it’s because their spouse has something to push from her years as First Lady.

Speaking to Stanford University on April 21st, former President Barack Obama gave a speech with some deep implications for the students, but more importantly it shows just how warped the left’s interpretation of our amendments has become. If his views on free speech are to be believed, then they have no interest in the free exchange of ideas, but instead want nothing but complete absolutes to come out of people’s mouths.

“The First Amendment is a check on the power of the state. It doesn’t apply to private companies like Facebook and Twitter. While content moderation can limit the distribution of clearly dangerous content, it doesn’t go far enough.” He went on to complain about how we cannot handle it and how past leaders would use this against us.

“Over time we lose our capacity to distinguish between fact, opinion, and wholesale fiction. Or maybe we just stop caring. Our brains aren’t accustomed to taking in this much information this fast, and a lot of us are experiencing overload… People like Putin and Steve Bannon for that matter understand it’s not necessary for people to believe disinformation in order to weaken democratic institutions, you just have to flood the public square with enough raw sewage”

This isn’t a problem on Facebook or Twitter Obama. It’s a hard concept for someone like him to hear, but this is just human nature. People spread the stories, myths, viewpoints, and ideas that they believe and believe in most. This means they are at times spreading the word of things that cannot be proven, or things that can only be proven with flimsy evidence. This is absolutely vital to America as a nation and a part of the First Amendment.

It didn’t stop him from giving his list of how tech needs to be moderated. Things like promoting a healthy exchange of ideas, reinforcing law and self-governance, helping us make collective decisions, as well as recognizing the rights and freedoms of all citizens are parts of his list. He thinks their moderation or government oversight would solve the problems per his research.

No matter how many times Obama re-reads the constitution, looks at the opinions of others, or studies American history on the subject, he is wrong here to try and convince people that it’s bad by invoking Putin and Steve Bannon. As we have seen with the free press, major media will put a hat on the pig of news stories that don’t advance their agenda. Government agencies will lie, cheat, and steal to get their way as they have proven over the years.

As it is the left got Trump removed from social media simply because his stance on issues was more than they wanted to deal with. The funny thing is, the points he was charged up about have all proven to be true. From the Hunter Biden laptop to the Biden plans to destroy our economy to make it more in keeping with the liberal agenda. Yet they just silenced him for stating the truth that nobody wanted to hear.

To believe Obama when it comes to the idea of free speech is a poor idea. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about or how to appreciate the freedom we have as a nation. His mindset that the country doesn’t need to have free speech everywhere is nothing short of the start of socialism. The open exchange of ideas should be universal. While lies and conspiracy theories will happen, that’s where people are responsible to research what they read before taking action.
