The Atlantic Caught Publishing Fake News
(RightWing.org) – One facet of how people (and media sources) construct a believable lie is to insert it among actual truths. What makes it even easier is just how badly one’s target audience wants to believe it, and in today’s politically divisive America that’s pretty badly.
The left-leaning magazine decided that now — less than two months from the November presidential election — would be a good time to rehash an old argument about President Donald Trump and his feelings for the US military. In this case, it was his 2018 trip to France and the decision not to attend a memorial at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery where the Battle of Belleau Wood was fought during World War I.
In the article, they claim that several infamous “unnamed sources” said that the president refused to go because “he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain and because he did not believe it important to honor American war dead.” They tied this to the well-known animosity between him and the late Senator John McCain (R-AZ) that started when Trump offered the opinion that he did not see the senator as a war hero.
However, they either didn’t fact check themselves or they don’t really care because the issue has already been covered in a memoir written by John Bolton the former United States Ambassador to the United Nations and former National Security Advisor to the United States. The book was scathingly anti-Trump which tends to give his narrative of the day in question more than a little credibility.
As Bolton wrote, the recommendation to skip the memorial service was made by two of Trump’s aides, one of whom was a former United States Marine who actually had suggested the trip in the first place. The issues at hand were the relatively low flight ceilings that would be encountered by the presidential helicopter Marine One and the state of the roads over which the motorcade would be forced to travel. Either of which could cause an unacceptable delay in the event an emergency arose that required the president to be evacuated.

The Progressive Liberal politicians and media outlets have made it their unrelenting mission to undo Hillary Clinton’s 2016 implosion. They, more than anyone, know that another facet of conniving people into believing a lie is to tell it often enough that they will begin to question their recollections of the truth.
