According to a former aide to New York governor Andrew Cuomo, he has been engaging in sexual harassment for years now. Lindsey Boylan, who is now running as a Democrat for the position of Manhattan borough president, took to Twitter to make the allegations. The ensuing tweetstorm certainly did not paint the governor in a very flattering light.
Boylan recalled the harassment that her mother experienced during her very first job, which has clearly lingered in her memory for quite some time now. “My first experience of workplace sexual harassment was when my mom got her first real office job after graduating from college when I was in high school. She was so excited to be taken “seriously.” Her bossed isolated her and kissed her. She never had that type of job again,” Boylan tweeted.
Boylan was not done there, either. “It was then how I learned how hard it is for women. How hard this world can be for us when we are trying to be taken seriously and help our community. How easily jerks can destroy the lives of women,” she continued. These are the types of allegations that are becoming more and more common these days.
Men in power were once able to enjoy a sense of impunity from these sorts of allegations. There are certain “boys will be boys” mentality that permeates many political sectors. Boylan made a promise to herself that she would never allow these types of men to win. She made this very clear during her series of tweets.
“And I promised myself I would never let those kind of guys win. I would work hard my whole life to put myself in positions of power to change things. To end the violence & corruption. Give voice to the voiceless. I am not stopping. I refuse. I will never give up,” Boylan proclaimed. The sad story about Cuomo sounds like so many others that have surfaced….but the leftists do not seem as angry as usual.
Gee, we wonder why. “Yes, Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed me for years. Many saw it, and watched,” Boylan went on to say. “I could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks. Or would it be both in the same conversation? This was the way for years.” She was far from done, too.
Cuomo is said to have harassed numerous women, not just Boylan. She hopes that their stories can be told one day as well. “Not knowing what to expect what’s the most upsetting part aside from knowing that no one would do a damn thing even when they saw it. No one. And I *know* I am not the only woman,” she informed the Twittersphere.
Finally, she concluded with a very important observation. Until men like Cuomo are taken to task for their behavior, it will only continue. Women like Boylan do not want to be placed in these situations. It’s funny how they only seem to matter when leftists have the chance to take down their political enemies.
“I’m angry to be put in this situation at all. That because I am a woman, I can work hard my whole life to better myself and help others and yet still fall victim as countless women over generations have. Mostly silently. I hate that some men, like @NYGovCuomo abuse their power,” Boylan’s thread concludes. This is a major mic drop for the moment for the left.
This is their chance to prove that they truly care about impropriety in politics, even when the people they vote for are involved. Give it a few days, though. We are sure that Cuomo will have his excuses ready. This is a guy who has already written a book about how well he handled COVID-19. We always knew that his hubris would one day be his downfall.
