We all know that former President and Joe Biden’s boss Barack Obama would never knowingly trash his once running mate. However, that definitely doesn’t mean that he might not criticize how certain things are going right now that Biden can be the only one to blame.
And on a recent appearance on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America,’ the former Commander in Chief proved it, taking specific aim at Biden’s failed and what he called “dysfunctional” immigration system. What Obama suggested is a complete overhaul or “reform” of the way things are now, as they are obviously not working.
Of course, Biden’s former boss refused to actually blame him for what’s going on all along our southern border. Instead, he says that his failing efforts so far are only a “reminder that we don’t have this right yet and we’ve got more work to do.”
Indeed, we do.
And as Obama says, it starts with getting “serious about dealing with” the problem. Instead of simply reacting to these emergencies as they come up as Biden has been, Obama says we need to be systematic and consistent. There needs to be a complete overhaul, or we will continue to get these “episodes” of extreme emergency with no solution in sight.
And I have to agree with the man. The system does need to change, and the administration needs to get serious about handling it sooner rather than later.
However, that doesn’t include pacifying our aging and demented current leader just because he doesn’t want to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, former President Donald Trump.
The fact of the matter is what Trump did for immigration worked. Thanks to his building of the wall, his “Remain in Mexico” policy, and other immigration-related moves, America was finally starting to see a decline in illegal crossings and an increase inhumane treatment of illegals who did enter the US.
Of course, all of that changed when Biden took over. Nearly immediately, he stopped the building of the wall, trashed the heavily popular ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy, and pretty much opened up our borders to the world. Hell, he even issued an invitation of sorts to everyone thinking about coming to the US, legally or not, telling them to join us.
Now, as I said, Obama would never insinuate that our current problems are Biden’s fault. However, he did make one thing clear in his recent interview: borders are necessary, and a nation without them will be “unsustainable.”
He told host Robin Roberts, “we’re a nation-state. We have borders. The idea that we can just have open borders is something that, I think, as a practical matter, is unsustainable. The way we solve this problem is to have a smarter, more efficient, more effective immigration system.”
Once again, I agree. After all, what is a nation without borders and laws? Unfortunately, as we can see from the areas surrounding our currently open borders, it becomes a corrupt place of mass confusion and chaos.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that we have to stop helping people and allowing them to make a better life for themselves and their loved ones. We can still allow immigrants in every. We can still grant asylum to those in need, and we can still continue to add to our culture and society by letting those who may not be just like us enter the US.
But as Obama says, there needs to be an efficient, legal, and humane process to that. There needs to be background checks run. Asylum court dates should be given. And migrants need to be held accountable for their actions.
If we are going to continue to be the land of free, migrants who honestly want to make a better life here deserve to have the correct information and a clear and safe pathway to citizenship. But just as necessary is the need for Americans to feel the same kind of safety, knowing that our borders can and will protect them from those seeking to do us harm.
Biden clearly isn’t offering either to anyone, and Obama knows it.
