AOC Warns that January 6 Was Just a Trial Run and If the GOP Gets a House Majority, Watch Out!

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), the progressive Democrat from New York, gave a dire warning to America about what might happen if the Republicans once again get the majority in the House of Representatives in the midterm elections this November.

She claimed that the January 6 riot at the Capitol was “just a trial run.”

AOC was speaking at a town hall meeting this week and she said, “If we lose the House, this is no joke. January 6 was a trial run, and a lot of people don’t seem to understand that. It was a trial run, and they’re going to come back.”

The liberal representative went further saying just what the “technicality” of what happened on January 6 really was. She said the “only reason” the riot wasn’t worse was due to the fact that Democrats had the majority in the House and the GOP just did not have the votes.

“If they take the House, then they have the votes to not authorize and legitimize the presidential election, whatever the results are,” Ocasio-Cortez exclaimed.’

The truth is that most GOP officials condemned the riot at the Capitol. There were just six Senate Republicans and only 121 House Republicans who backed objections to certifying Arizona’s election results. There were just seven Senate Republicans and 138 House Republicans who objected to certifying Pennsylvania’s election results.

These numbers are really only a small portion of the total number of Republicans in the Senate (51) and the House (211). A vote to block the certification of the Electoral College votes would have taken a majority of both the Senate and the House. So even if the things that took place in the 2020 elections happened again after the 2024 election, and the Republicans once again had a majority in both, the numbers do not warrant such a warning from Ocasio-Cortez. The GOP would not have enough votes to overturn an election in both Houses.

The issues involved in the unrest over election results in 2020 were attached to the times. There were alleged irregularities in new voting policies, there was a change in the voting process due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and there were grants that were funneled through nonprofits but ultimately were given by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

It is the Republicans who are behind reforms that would increase election integrity as they work to end COVID-19 measures put in place. The Democrats are condemning these reforms calling them an attempt to “rollback” voting rights. In fact, President Biden referred to the election reform law in Georgia as “Jim Crow on steroids.” One of the fact-checkers called this reference from the president “incredibly disingenuous.”

Even more disturbing is the fact that Biden hesitated to say whether he would acknowledge the legitimacy of the 2022 midterm election results. His issue would be if the electoral reform bills from Democrats were to fail in Congress.

Biden said, “The increase of the prospect of it being illegitimate is in direct proportion to us not being able to get these reforms passed.”

No one is failing to acknowledge the tragedy that took place on January 6 at the Capitol. A Capitol Police officer fatally shot a 35-year-old Air Force veteran named Ashli Babbit when she was forcing her way into the House chamber. Another person in the riot died after suffering a drug overdose, and a 42-year-old Capitol Police officer, Brian Sicknick, died after suffering two strokes the day after being hit with pepper spray. The worst outcome was that four officers who responded to the riot committed suicide not long after January 6.

But for AOC to use the Capitol riot to scare people away from voting for a GOP candidate seems out of bounds.
